To be admitted to our Gymnasium, you must pass a single „state“ entrance exam in Czech language and mathematics, with a minimum score of 45 points. The school part of the entrance exam consists of a written test in English and an oral interview to verify motivation to study.
The school is likely to offer 15 places in the second round. You can already meet us, see the school or have a “test day” in our classrooms.
For more information on the 1st round of admissions continue HERE.
In the first two years of study, students meet the expected outcomes of the national curriculum. At the same time, in subjects taught in English, they work with the structure, textbooks and materials of the IB Middle Years Programme, which is designed for international schools. In this way they gradually acquire the attitudes and skills needed to work in an international environment.
The curriculum of each subject offers the possibility of individualisation while developing general skills and literacy.
More than a third of the teaching is in English, or selected subjects combine teaching in English and Czech (aesthetic education, geography, biology, history...). The emphasis on excellent English language acquisition focuses on the shift from basic communication to the use of the language at the level of a native speaker. The curriculum is complemented by the offer of one of two other languages - Spanish or German. At the end of this cycle, we verify that all students have achieved the set goals in key areas.
The curriculum offers a significant choice of focus. The aim is to prepare for study at good domestic and international universities.
Students aim for a combination of the Czech and International Baccalaureate (IB Diploma Programme), which is the recommended course of study. However, they can also take only the Czech Baccalaureate. The design of the international programme is externally determined - students choose the subjects they will study, and the assessment of their work is done outside the school. The programme is complemented by a volunteering or university counselling programme.
The form of the Czech baccalaureate will be similar to the international one, i.e. it will take the form of a comprehensive test of knowledge and skills, rather than pulling out a slip of paper with a number on it.
The tuition fee for students entering in September 2026 is set at CZK 190,000 per year for the entire period of study. The amount can only change based on inflation.
The founder (Tipsport Foundation) can be asked for social scholarships, which provides approximately one fifth of our students.
This year we are offering exceptional academic scholarships. The top achievers of the entrance exam have the opportunity to study with a discount of 80 % on tuition fees.
In Beroun we have created a bilingual progressive education system for children from 3 to 19 years old, from kindergarten to the International Baccalaureate. We are a school for the success (i.e. the development of potential) of every pupil and student. In September 2025, we opened a new campus in downtown Beroun.
The gymnasium building itself (Triangle) offers three floors for students to study on. The first floor is dominated by a cafeteria and a mixzone - a place for informal gatherings and relaxation.
The second floor is reserved for first and second year students. In addition to the stem and language classrooms, there is also a library, a computer room and a study room.
The third floor is for third and fourth year students. There are also laboratories or a theatre hall.
On both floors, classrooms are located around the perimeter of the building, while the central area is designed as a gathering space for students.
Gymnasium students also use the facilities of the main campus - especially the sports field and the canteen.
The important things happen in school not only in the classroom, but also in between.
The Pastoral Care system generally focuses on cultivating an environment that supports the physical, social, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual development of each student. It aims to create a safe and stimulating environment and takes an active interest in the well-being of each student. It emphasizes the prevention of potential difficulties and the early identification of problems so that the necessary support can be provided.
Specifically, it participates in the preparation of the programme of adaptation and residential trips, the CAS programme (volunteering programme in the last two years of studies), is available to students in more exposed periods (transition from primary school, exam period), implements workshops and activities aimed at the personal development of students.
In connection with the academic field, it forms a coherent shape in the sense of holistic education. The Pastoral Care team includes class teachers, a school psychologist or a university counsellor.
The school offers a varied programme of events and trips outside school, usually two weeks a year. These activities include both individual students' choices (for example, project schools in the countryside in June) and curriculum development events such as skiing, paddling or survival courses. A number of off-site events are then linked to the volunteering programme or student internships.
The Gymnasium operates in six-week cycles, five weeks of learning ”according to the timetable", in the sixth/connecting week we have trips or various workshops.
Bára has worked with children as a leader and nurse at camps since she was a child. She organized summer art camps, camps for teenagers and adaptation courses. Although Bára is a social educator, she soon found herself swapping the role of teaching assistant for that of a teacher - ideally of pupils in Key Stage 2. Prior to joining VIA Beroun, she worked as a deputy principal at the Czech-English Montessori Gymnasium Duhovka, where she led a team of classroom teachers and a pastoral care team for the junior high school. What attracted her to the Beroun project was the opportunity to build a school from scratch and be part of a fledgling team.
In her free time she enjoys sports (running, skiing, swimming), travelling and trips with her family.
Petr got into teaching through scouting, where he led a troop of wolf cubs in Všenory for many years. In his twenty-five years in education he has been through many institutions. His change in perspective on the meaning of education was brought about by his participation in the start-up of the Open Gate project and especially the New PORG, where he served on the board for several years. Here he became a great supporter of progressive bilingual education. In this spirit he led the Czech-English Montessori gymnasium Duhovka for seven years. Prior to joining VIA, he served on the board of the non-profit organization Teacher Alive, where he sponsored programs preparing future principals and developing existing ones. He was brought to Beroun by a strong vision for the project.
In his spare time, he enjoys cycling (ideally with his wife and three children), consuming quality TV or reading (formerly novels and historical monographs, nowadays more tweets).
Luke has worked as an English teacher in the Czech Republic since 2010. From 2014 to 2022, he worked in Open Gate as an English teacher and head of the Primary School English Department. He studied English and Geography in University, and later obtained a Diploma in Psychology. He has a Diploma and Certificate in Teaching English as a Foriegn Language. He believes that teaching children should be fun and interactive. Lessons should be dynamic, entertaining and the children should leave each class with a smile on his or her face.
When he is not teaching, he enjoys performing stand up comedy. He formed Comedy Prague in 2013 and regularly performs in Prague and Europe. He also enjoys watching football, listening to music and running.
Peter Sokol studied English and History at the Faculty of Education in České Budějovice. Before joining VIA he gained his teaching experience at three schools - Primary School Propojení in Sedlčany, Open Gate and Gymnasium Duhovka. At the same time, he cooperates on projects dedicated to the education of history teachers. Currently, he is developing the Czech version of the Facing History and Ourselves programme with the Antikomplex organisation.
Apart from education, Peter enjoys good films, especially those shown at the Sedlčany Film Club, which he has been running for several years.
Since high school, Jana knew that the uniqueness of personal stories, the dynamics of relationships, the diversity of behaviors and the mystery of emotions would be an area she would like to explore. She studied psychology and special education at Charles University in Prague and is glad she wasn't wrong. Her professional journey has been connected to children and young adults from the beginning, across socio-economic backgrounds and relational backgrounds. She enjoys variety and challenge in her working life. She has worked with children growing up in orphanages, in educational-psychological counseling centers, special education centers, and in recent years she has devoted herself to her favorite activity - psychotherapy and school psychology in Czech and international schools. What brought her to VIA School was the meaning that the school concept gives her and the emphasis on the interest in holistic growth and satisfaction of students and teachers.
She enjoys living with her family and friends, exploring the world, going to the beach with a backpack on her back, reading, following trends in Czech fashion and design and much more.
